Using the Tourist Guardian Angel Bot

This page was last updated for version 3.3.3.73 on Saturday, March 13, 2004.

Thanks to the several hours of work Andras has done, this world is protected by the Tourists' Guardian Angel Bot. What exactly does this mean for tourists though? And how do you build with this bot in place?

Instructions On How To Set up And Use An Account

When you enter the world you will be whispered one of two messages.

[GuardBot]:        Welcome to awnewbie. Whisper help to me for instructions.

[GuardBot]:        If you participated under a different name then please log in using that name.

[GuardBot]: If your old name is taken, please whisper your "old name":password (both are case sensitive!) E.g.: "Test":A1q@B!23

[GuardBot]: If you are new, ask me for a password by whispering: password.

[GuardBot]: If you don't remember to your password, ask a WK to reset the old one for you.

If you get the above message then you can go ahead and register. Skip below to registering.

[GuardBot]:        Welcome to awnewbie. Whisper help to me for instructions.

[GuardBot]: This name has a password for participating.

[GuardBot]: Please whisper your password to me or log in under another visitor name.

If you get the above message then the name you are using has already been registered for use with another tourist. Unless you've registered with this name before, you will need to change tourist names. Go to the login menu at the top of your AW browser and click Login. Once you have a new name, go ahead and read the section for registering.

Registering

First thing you want to do is set up a password to use. You have two choices. You can whisper password to the bot to receive a password and privilege password. However, it is strongly recommended that you whisper mailpassword:<email> to register and have the password printed to you and sent to your e-mail inbox as well. The passwords can be complicated so it is best to have it sent to you so you don't lose it. Keep in mind that passwords are case sensitive, so if GuardBot says your password is xgLYXz#e then the L, Y, and X must be capitalized.

The bot's name may be different depending on the world you are in. In AWNewbie the name will always be [GuardBot]. The bot will reply like this:

[GuardBot]:        Your password is:  7lpzVQ_8  ( seven lima papa zulu VICTOR QUEBEC Underscore eight )  .PrivilegePass is:  DFg@#5RM ( DELTA FOXTROT golf At Hash five ROMEO MIKE ) . Please write them down, you'll need it everytime you log in.

The first password is the one you will use to log in to build when you return to the world. Your tourist name is "registered" for your exclusive use. The second password is your "privilege password." Citizens use a privilege password, or PPW, to be able to build under someone else's account. The words in the parentheses will assist you in reading the password. Be sure to write down both your password and PPW or better yet, have it sent to your email address. Everytime you visit the world again under the same name, just whisper your password to the bot in order to resume building.

If you get a message like this: Password doesn't match. Please try again! then the name you are using has already been used to register. Go to the Login menu and click on tourist, and try again.

General Commands

Here I will go over each command for you. Be sure to include the colon (the :) after each command. Simply whisper to the bot like you did with the password.

help

This will go over briefly what the bot is all about.

help:commands

This will list all the commands for you. You can also look at this list here on the webpage.

email:

This will register your e-mail address so in case you lose your password we can look it up. You can also have the bot send the password to you by e-mail using the next command.

invite:name

This works in reverse of the join command, inviting someone to join you at your location. They will either accept or deny your request. If they accept, they will pop up at your whereabouts.

join:name

This will let you see one of the features of a citizenship. This command will send a request to the other person asking if they would like you to join them wherever they are in the world. They need to whisper "y" or "n" to the bot to either accept or deny your request. If they accept your request you will appear at their location. This will only work if they are in the world that you are in. Again, if you are joining a tourist you must include the tourist quotation marks.

mailpassword:

This will e-mail your password and privilege password to you if you have registered an account. I strongly recommend registering your e-mail and having the password sent there so in case you lose it you can look in your e-mail box.

newpassword:

This command will generate a new password and privilege password for you. Be sure to write them down!

password:

This will remind you of what your password is. Be sure to have it written down!

seed:<objectname>

This will "seed" or build an object at your location with the object name you have given. This will allow you to start building in an empty area without having to copy off of an object nearby. Example: seed:walk001.rwx.

version:

This command will tell you the bot's version number. I suppose it is useful for comparing to the version number at the top of this page :)

clickowner:

This will allow you to left-click on any object to see who is the owner of the object.

summonwk:

This will call for a WatchKeeper if you are having problems. This will only work if a WatchKeeper has signed on duty.

copy:north-west coordinates:south-east coordinates

Saves the objects of an area to a "clipboard" like copying and pasting text. For example, you could use copy:4n 3w:3n 2w to copy a one coordinate box. Try tapping F10 to see the coordinate grid. Also tap F11 to see your current position in the title bar of ActiveWorlds.

clear:

Deletes the contents of the "clipboard" - namely, the objects you have copied.

paste:

Builds everything in your "clipboard." You must first use the copy: command to copy some objects.

Privacy Commands

Similiar to the block options that citizens have available, these commands will help you with privacy with the join, invite, and telegram features. You can whisper help:privacy to get a list inworld.

privacy:

This will list your current privacy settings.

privacy:block:telegrams or priv:b:t

This will block or unblock telegrams from everyone.

privacy:block:join

This will block or unblock joins from everyone.

privacy:block:invite

This will block or unblock invites from everyone.

privacy:confirm:join

This will allow you to switch on or off the ability to select "yes" or "no" to a join request.

privacy:confirm:invite

This will allow you to switch on or off the ability to select "yes" or "no" to an invite request.

Privilege Commands

Privilege commands will allow you to do "team building". If you don't take the privileges of someone else, you won't be able to build on or delete their objects! You can use help:privilege to list these commands.

takeprivilege:

This will turn off any building privilege you have. When you have a building privilege on, you are building under someone else's name!

takeprivilege:name:privpass

This will let you build under someone else's name so that you can build as a team and are able to change and delete his/her objects. You must have their privilege password and their name. For instance, takeprivilege:"Ryan":DFg@#5RM would let you assume the rights of "Ryan" if DFg@#5RM was his privilege password. You should not give out your actual password. If you are building in a group of 3 or more, every person should use the privilege password of just one person in the group. Without having a privilege password on, you are using your own building privileges and are building under your own name.

tellprivilege:

This command will remind you of whose privilege password you are on. Remember, you are building under his/her name.

Telegram Commands

Citizens have a feature called "telegrams." Telegrams are basically just messages you can send to other tourists and citizens. Telegrams are restricted to the world you sent them, however you can send telegrams to any registered tourist or any citizen even if they are out of the world. When they enter the world they can view your telegram.

telegram: or tg:

This command will tell you how many telegrams you have.

telegram:read or tg:r

This will read you the telegram. For your information, it is in the same format as a citizen telegram.

telegram:email

If you have an e-mail address on file, this command will send all your telegrams to that e-mail address.

telegram:name:messagebody

This command will telegram someone. Note that if you are in AWNewbie and you send a message to your friend, they have to go to AWNewbie in order to receive it. They will be notified that they have a telegram whenever they come in. You can send telegrams to anyone, citizen or tourist using this feature. If you send to a tourist you must include the quotations (e.g. "Ryan"). For instance, telegram:"Ryan":Hi! will send a telegram saying "Hi!" to Ryan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this bot needed?

In the past any citizen or tourist could delete, change, or vandalize your objects if they wanted to. While this could encourage a tourist to register, more often then not it only causes ill will and problems. This bot will let you try out some of the features that a citizen enjoys, however I recommend that you register to be a citizen and join our community if you like ActiveWorlds. :)

What happens if I lose my password?

If you lose your password and you have an e-mail address registered, you can use the mailpassword: command to have the bot mail you your password.

Can I change the password to something I want?

No :(. Most people would change their passwords to something easily compromised, and it was decided that it would be better to have the bot generate passwords only.

Will tourist builds be permanent with this bot?

It depends on the world. In AWNewbie, tourist builds will be cleared out periodically to make room for new builds.

I'm having a problem. Who can I contact?

If nobody is available in-world to help you, you can reach me at ryan at awnewbie dot com or you can e-mail the creator of the bot, Andras, whose e-mail is listed on http://andras.net. If you are having a problem with an account or a password you will need to contact the caretaker of the world you are in.
